Even easier
Now that I'm looking back on it, this week really was an easy week. Today's schedule was run 2 min, walk 3, 7x. I mean really. Can it get any easier than that? I'm looking forward to next week of really getting comfortable with running 3 mins at a time before bumping that up to 5 mins the following week. I really enjoy running, but it gets boring very quickly. There are only so many different roads/paths you can take and seeing the same scenery over and over gets to be monotonous. The only thing exciting is encountering dogs. I always try to make friends with a dog, at first, and thankfully, it has worked so far.

Easy run
Today was an easy run - run 2 min, walk 2 min, 7x. It was also really nice weather, it was overcast and cool for Colorado lately. It was 66 degrees, which isn't cool, but it was soooo much cooler than it has been that I actually wore a long sleeved shirt today.
I've been thinking about what other core exercises I could be doing on my off days and I've finally come up with a few. I've found some exercises that target the problem areas of abs, butt, inner thigh and the back of the upper arm. I love that feeling when your muscles are sore, so I've been doing these exercises even on the days that I run. And I'm just trying to be more active by riding my bicycle. Yesterday and the day before I rode my bicycle into town 5.5 miles one way. I know that doesn't sound very far, but when you haven't ridden for awhile, it takes some time to get the butt toughened up a bit. Also exercising like that in 101 degree weather wears you out pretty quickly.

New Shorts
This week is an easy recovery week or so it says on the schedule. I ran 3 min, walked 2 min, 8x. But there wasn't anything easy about it; I'm still adjusting to the elevation increase from sea level. My breathing is still a bit labored, but I know it will become easier with time.
I think that my left heal is bruised because it hurts whenever I run and sporadically on my days off.

Sat am
I try to run M/W/F, but circumstances messed that up this week, so I ran T/T/S. It's Sat morning and I should be sleeping in, but not today. It was so difficult to get out of bed this morning at 5:45, but sheer determination to finish this program spurred me on. It was a beautiful morning with the sun shining and locust doing their locust noise. I saw 9 wild turkeys this morning, 4 adults and 5 babies. I keep remembering, only after I've left the house, that I should bring a camera with me. One of these days I'll actually remember before I leave.
It was a good run today - finished up week 3 with run 3, walk 2, 9x. I really felt it in the buttocks and hamstring area. I really had a hard time with breathing today - I couldn't seem to get in the rythm of deep breaths in through the nose and 2/3 long breaths out of the mouth. I was all short breaths today.

Early morning
A couple of years ago, my friend, Laura introduced me to The Beginning Runner's Handbook. I've started the 13 week run/walk program several times, but haven't finished it yet due to an accident, illnesses, and safety issues. But I'm determined to finish it. So, with Laura's and my husband's accountability, I will succeed.
I finally got out of bed early this morning for a run. I got up, had a drink and a little snack, warmed up, stretched and was out of the door by 6:20. I ran 2 min, walked 2 min, 9x. It was soooo much cooler this morning, only 65 degrees in Colorado.

A Good Run Indeed
I love to run. A few years ago I decided that I wanted a "runners" body. So....I began running. As did Heather. Together we are making our way through a running program. She has to run 3 days a week, and so do I. Hmmmmmmmmmm, sounds a bit like accountability don't you think? So about my run...
9:00 run, very nice run. Very nice due to the FABULOUS breeze. The first two miles were amazing indeed and I felt empowered by the pounding of my Nikes. So, I hit the half way mark and turned around. I ran for a bit more and became parched AND hot. Strange phenomena yah? Not really, I live in DC and it's HOT! The sun came out, the breeze left and the last few miles felt a bit like forever.
Did I love my run? Yes.
Will I go tomorrow? No.
Why not? I refuse to run two times in a row.
So what will you and Heather receive upon completion? A few less pounds and the ability to run endlessly...
